How Big Do Corgis Get? (Plus Size Info for Mix Breeds)

How Big Do Corgis Get?

Corgis are excellent dogs well known for their energetic and loving nature. They are small to medium size breeds that love attention and are incredibly loyal. It is worthy to note that the Corgi ranks highly among the most intelligent dogs existing today.

You have to be mindful of the size of your dog when choosing a breed. If you feed your Corgi appropriately, exercise it well, and it doesn’t suffer any disease, your Corgi can grow up to 10-12 inches and can weigh as much as 23-28 lbs.

The Corgi is an exciting dog breed to have. More than the pure breed, there are many lovable corgi mixes you should know about. These hybrids mix some of the famed features and temperament of the Corgi with those of the other parent breed, forming a remarkable blend. How about we learn more about them?

Growth of Corgi

Here, we will explore the growth of the male and the female Corgi across different stages of their lives. For the female Corgi, it can grow can as much as 4.3-5.5 kg when it is about 12 weeks old.

By the 6th month, your female Corgi (if the large type) should weigh about 10kg. The small female corgi breed could weigh 7.8kg within this interval.

By the 12th month, your female Corgi should weigh about 12.9kg (for the big ones) and 10kg (for the small ones).

How about the male Corgi?

Within the first 12 weeks, you can expect your male Corgi to grow up to 4.3-5.8kg. By the 6th month, the small male Corgi should have grown up to 7.8kg, while the bigger one should be weighing 10.7kg.

A male corgi of 12 months, should weigh 13.8kg (for the big ones) and 10kg (for the smaller ones). The bigger male corgis will have their growth spanning up to their 14th month, while the smaller ones could see their growth end in the 12th month.

At What Age is a Corgi Fully Grown?

By standard, the Corgi records its maximal size by the 12th month. By this time, your Corgi should be weighing 23-28 lbs and as tall as 10-12 inches. Take note that not all corgis have their growth stalling at year 1, some would grow even up to the second and third year.

Is a Corgi’s Size Right for You?

The Corgi is a small to medium dog size. It would be the befitting dog size for you if you are not a fan of large dog breeds – or you probably don’t have the energy and most especially house spaciousness to accommodate giant dog breeds.

If you will be spending more of your time at home, a smaller dog breed like the Corgi is ideal for you as you would give it sufficient amounts of love and attention it needs.

If you also love your dog snuggling up to you and jumping on you, then a corgi is good enough for you as their weight and power are not overwhelming.

Corgi Husky Mix

The Corgi Husky mix is one of the most popular corgi mixes ever, and yes, it is remarkably cute. It is a mix of the Corgi (whether Welsh or Pembroke) with the Siberian husky. This mix is generally referred to as the Siborgi, otherwise the Horgi.

This dog mix has a height of about 12-15 inches. The Horgi has a weight range of about 20-50 lbs. Indeed, it retains the sturdy legs of the Corgi.

The Horgi can take on the coat of either the Siberian husky or the Corgi. The most prevalent coat colors we have seen include brown, white, cream, and orange.

German Shepherd Corgi Mix

The Corgi Shepherd mix, as the name readily suggests, arises from the inter-breeding of the German shepherd and the Welsh Corgi.

This mix inherits a fair share of the high brilliance of the two parent breeds. Agreed, both parent breeds are some of the best herding dogs ever. This contributes a huge chunk of the intelligence of the Corgi Shepherd mix.

The Corgi Shepherd mix has a height range of 12-14 inches. It can weigh about 35 lbs on average.

Corgi Chihuahua Mix

When you interbreed the Pembroke Welsh Corgi with the Chihuahua, what you have is the Chigi (Corgi chihuahua mix). This dog mix retains the lovable temperament of its two parent breeds.

It is affectionate, energetic, and smart, with a considerable disposition to play. The coat of the Chigi can be medium, long, or short, depending on the genetic mix.

The most common coat colors we have seen include silver, black & white, light brown, and black. The Chigi weighs about 10-20 lbs. It is more of a small dog with a height range of 7-12 inches.

Corgi Poodle Mix

The corgi poodle mix (commonly referred to as the Corgipoo) is a blend of the Toy Poodle and the purebred Corgi. They have the signature stout and short legs of the Corgi. Also, their ears are either floppy or erect.

By temperament, Corgipoo needs a lot of human company. This lively Corgi mix weighs about 12-30 lbs. They can be as tall as 10-12 inches.

Corgi Pitbull Mix

The Pitbull when interbred with the Corgi gives you the corgi pit bull mix. It is a medium to large dog mix with a weight range of 30-50 lbs. The height comes around 17-19 inches.

Yet, the corgi pit bull mix retains the impressive speed levels of the Corgi. The corgi pit bull mix has most of the facial features of the pitbull. The coat of the corgi pit bull mix has a medium thickness, with the undercoat being resistant to water.

Corgi Lab Mix

The Corgi Lab Mix has one parent that is a Labrador Retriever and one parent that is a Welsh Corgi.

The Corgi Lab mix is a lively and energetic dog. Its coat is moderately thick, with the length varying across short and medium. The most prevalent coat colors we have seen include black, chocolate brown, and yellow.

The Labrador is admittedly a huge dog. When the Labrador retriever is interbred with the Corgi, you have a hybrid dog that is about 30-60 lbs. The height of this designer dog ranges from 10-24 inches.

Corgi Dachshund Mix

The Corgi Dachshund mix is commonly referred to as the Dorgi. The size and appearance of the Dorgi majorly depend on the parent breeds used.

For example, if you interbreed a Dachshund (of standard size) with a Corgi, what you would get is a dorgi weighing 16-31lbs, with a height of about 8-12 inches.

This Dorgi would have the typical short built of the Corgi with the color of their coat ranging from brown to white to orange.

Depending on the proportion of the Dachshund/corgi genes in the Dorgi, the Dorgi could have a wiry hair coat or a coat of long hairs.

Golden Retriever Corgi Mix

Interbreeding the Corgi and the golden retriever gives you the Golden Corgi. This dog hybrid has a weight range of 30-75lbs. They could be 10-18 inches tall as well (from the shoulder).

The Golden Corgi is an affectionate dog with a penchant for snuggling up to humans it has bonded with.

Corgi Beagle Mix

The Corgi beagle mix has a height range of about 10-16 inches. This hybrid dog can weigh anywhere between 10-20 lbs. Just like the parents, you can expect this dog mix to live up to 12-15 years.

This designer dog inherits the drooping ears and long tails of the beagle. The corgi beagle mix has round eyes, which can have a bit of dark brown coloring. The tail of the corgi beagle tends to turn upwards.

It gets erect when this hybrid dog gets more attentive. Yes, the corgi beagle mix has a double coat. The undercoat is shorter but thicker.

Corgi Pug Mix

The corgi pug mix arises from the cross-breeding of the pug and the Welsh Corgi. The corgi pug mix has a height range of 10-13 inches.

Take note this is not definitive as the height varies based on the parent breed with a higher genetic fraction of the corgi pug mix.

Typically, corgi pugs tend to have dark round eyes, but their faces aren’t as flat as that of the pug. Their color is mostly fawn enhanced with black masks.

Corgi Pomeranian Mix

The corgi Pomeranian mix is sturdy with a low-lying chest and strong legs. They have high energy levels and are remarkably athletic.

The Corgi Pomeranian weighs about 28 lbs-30 lbs. They have a broad muzzle, which is quite pointed. Their ears are typically erect. Put all these together, you see that the Corgi Pomeranian sort of resembles a fox.

Corgi Great Dane Mix

The Corgi Great Dane is another exciting corgi mix we can’t ignore. Interestingly, it has a weight range of 22-100 lbs. This designer dog is about 12-28 inches (measuring from the shoulder). The coat is short.

Rottweiler Corgi Mix

When the Rottweiler and Corgi are interbred, you get the rottgi. The height of this dog breed varies depending on the parent breeds.

Typically, the rottgi should have a height range of about 10-27 inches. The weight should be somewhere between 28-135 lbs.

Corgi Chow Mix

The height of the Corgi Chow mix oscillates between 10-22 inches. This hybrid dog can weigh about 28-55 lbs.
